The short answer
If you hold a three-year bachelor’s degree with around 50 percent marks, you can almost certainly write PGCET 2027. Final-year students have been allowed to apply in recent cycles. There is no age limit. And you do not need to be from Karnataka. That covers most people reading this page. The sections below deal with the finer cases. One thing first: KEA has not released the PGCET 2027 notification yet, so every rule here is from recent cycles, and the final word will always be the official brochure on kea.kar.nic.in.
MBA: any degree works
For the MBA paper, your degree subject does not matter. B.Com, BA, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, engineering — all of them qualify. What KEA has asked for in recent cycles is a bachelor’s degree of at least three years, with a minimum of 50 percent aggregate marks. For SC, ST and Category-I candidates from Karnataka, the line has been 45 percent. Read that carefully: the relaxation is for Karnataka candidates in those categories. A reserved-category candidate from another state should plan with the 50 percent line.
Aggregate means all subjects over all years, counted the way your university counts it. If your marks card shows a CGPA instead of a percentage, use your university’s official conversion rule and keep the conversion certificate safe. Counselling will ask for it.
MCA: one extra condition on maths
The MCA paper adds a single condition: your studies should include mathematics in some form. In recent brochures this has meant a degree with Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science as one of the subjects — so BCA, B.Sc Computer Science and engineering graduates clear it easily. Some sources describe the condition as maths at the 10+2 level or at the degree level, and the exact wording has shifted slightly across years. If your case is borderline — say a plain B.Com with maths ending at Class 12 — do not guess. Read the eligibility clause in the 2027 brochure on kea.kar.nic.in before you pay the fee. The marks requirement is the same 50 percent, with the same Karnataka-only relaxation. Still torn between the two courses? In your final year? Apply anyway
In recent cycles, students in the final year of their degree could apply before their results came out. The admission stays provisional: you must produce the final marks card showing the required percentage by the time of admission. So if your degree finishes in 2027, you can plan to write PGCET 2027 in the same year — you lose nothing by appearing. Just make sure your university result will arrive before the admission deadline, and confirm the exact cut-off date in the brochure when it is out.
No age limit, and old degrees count
PGCET has no upper age limit. A degree earned in 2010 qualifies the same way as one earned in 2026. This is why the exam suits people restarting their studies after years of work. A career gap does not disqualify you from the exam either. What matters is the degree, the marks, and the documents that prove them.
From outside Karnataka? You can write it
PGCET is open to candidates from every state in India. You register, write the exam and join counselling like anyone else. The differences come later: Karnataka’s caste-based reservation and region-based quotas apply only to Karnataka candidates, so outside candidates compete in the general merit list. We have a full walkthrough of the rules, seat types and steps in our guide for non-Karnataka PGCET candidates.
Keep these papers ready from now
Eligibility is proved with documents, not promises. Keep scanned copies ready: marks cards for every year or semester of your degree, the degree certificate or provisional certificate, a photo ID, and passport-size photographs. Karnataka candidates claiming reservation also need caste or income certificates, and study certificates for the years that prove domicile. Registration in past cycles opened around March or April, and the 2026 exam was held in mid-June. Dates for 2027 are not out, so watch kea.kar.nic.in. Scanning your papers this month costs nothing and saves a panicked week later.
Eligibility opens the gate. The rank picks the college.
Here is the honest part. Meeting the 50 percent line only gets you a hall ticket. The college you walk into is decided by your rank. So once you know you are eligible, shift your energy to a score target. Our free PGCET rank and college predictor estimates a rank from your expected marks and shows colleges against KEA’s 2025 first-round cut-offs. It is an estimate built from last year’s data, not an official figure — the official position is always on kea.kar.nic.in. But it tells you in two minutes what eligible can actually become.
Eligible and starting from zero? That is normal.
Eligibility is the easy part; the rank takes steady months. Learn Crew’s PGCET coaching is fully online, with live classes four evenings a week — Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday — so you can join from any city in India. Every class is recorded, and e-books, mock tests and mentorship are included. The mocks run on elearning.learncrew.org, the same platform as the classes. The next online batch starts in December 2026. Fees are ₹10,000 for MBA, ₹12,000 for MCA, and ₹4,000 for recorded-only access. In PGCET 2025, our students reached a highest State Rank of 23, with 70 students under rank 1000 — the full picture is on our results page. Check your eligibility once, then stop re-checking it. The marks are the real work.
\nPGCET books, e-books and mock tests
The PGCET MBA book set and the PGCET MCA book set are printed A4 and couriered across India. The e-books and the scored mock test series are on the same store pages, so you can pick print, digital, or both.
