You are not late, and you are not too old

A lot of people quietly drop the MBA idea because they think entrance exams are for final-year students. PGCET is not like that. There is no age limit for Karnataka PGCET, and every year a large share of candidates write it while holding a full-time job. The exam is also open to candidates from outside Karnataka. If you have a job in Bengaluru, Hyderabad or anywhere else and a degree in hand, you can write PGCET 2027.

Timing is on your side too. The PGCET 2026 exam was held in mid-June. KEA has not announced the 2027 dates yet, and the only official word will come on kea.kar.nic.in. But if the exam lands in a similar window, starting now in October gives you about eight months. For a working person, eight months of small, steady effort beats three months of panic every single time.

Know your two routes: full-time and part-time MBA

Working candidates usually have one big question: do I have to quit my job for this? Not necessarily. Karnataka PGCET admits candidates to full-time MBA seats, and recent KEA brochures have also listed part-time MBA seats meant for candidates with around three years of work experience, with conditions such as your workplace being within commuting distance of the college. The exact rules, documents and seat lists change year to year, so read the brochure on kea.kar.nic.in before you decide anything.

Either way, the entrance exam is the same paper. So the preparation does not change. What changes is the plan after the rank. If you are still deciding between courses, our guide on PGCET MBA vs MCA walks through how the two papers and careers differ.

Your real budget is about ten hours a week

Be honest about time. After office, commute, food and family, most working people can find one focused hour on weekdays and two to three hours on Saturday and Sunday. That is around ten hours a week. It does not sound like much. But from October to a mid-June exam, it adds up to roughly three hundred hours of preparation. That is more than enough for PGCET if the hours are spent on the right things.

The mistake is not the small budget. The mistake is spending it badly — one week of four-hour bursts, then three weeks of nothing. A fixed, boring routine wins.

A weekday shape that survives office

Here is a shape that has worked for our working students. Adjust the clock times to your shift, but keep the three slots.

  • Morning, 30 minutes: quantitative practice. Your mind is freshest before office, and quant is the section that punishes a tired brain the most.
  • Commute or lunch, 20 minutes: general knowledge and English on your phone. Vocabulary, one short reading passage, a current-affairs recap. This is dead time anyway — let it earn marks.
  • Night, 30 minutes: revise the morning’s quant topic or attend your class. Do not start new topics at night. Revision at night sticks better than learning at night.

Weekends carry the heavy work: full topics, sectional tests, and later, full mocks in one sitting.

What each phase should look like

From October to December, build basics — arithmetic, logical reasoning patterns, grammar rules, and a daily GK habit. From January to March, shift to topic-wise practice and timed sectional tests. From April to the exam, mocks take over: one full mock every weekend, then two, with the weekdays spent on analysing mistakes. We have mapped this out month by month in our PGCET 2027 preparation plan, and the whole of it fits inside the ten-hour week above.

Plan your leaves now, not in May

This is the step working candidates always miss. Your calendar needs a few specific days, and office approvals take time. Registration for past cycles has opened around March or April, so keep one evening free that week to fill the form carefully — edits are usually not allowed after submission. Keep your degree marks cards and ID documents scanned and ready this month itself. Then block the exam day and the day before it. Later, counselling will need a day for document verification. None of these dates are out yet for 2027, so watch kea.kar.nic.in and apply for leave the day a date is announced, not the week before it is due.

Set a target the office cannot shake

Vague goals die in busy weeks. Pick the colleges you actually want, see what ranks they closed at, and work backwards to a marks target. Our free PGCET rank and college predictor estimates a rank from your expected marks and lists colleges against KEA’s 2025 first-round cut-offs. It is an estimate from last year’s data, not an official figure — the official position is always on kea.kar.nic.in. But it turns “I want a good college” into “I need about this score”, and that number will keep your morning slot alive in March.

How classes fit around a job

Learn Crew’s PGCET coaching was built with working people in mind. Classes are live and online, four evenings a week — Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday — so you can join from home after office, from any city in India. Every class is recorded, so a late meeting does not cost you the topic; you watch it that weekend. E-books, mock tests and mentorship are included, and the mocks run on elearning.learncrew.org, the same platform as the classes. The next online batch starts in December 2026. Fees are ₹10,000 for MBA, ₹12,000 for MCA, and ₹4,000 for recorded-only access if live timings do not suit your shift.

In PGCET 2025, our students reached a highest State Rank of 23, with 70 students under rank 1000 — and a good number of them prepared exactly this way, around a job. You can see the full picture on our results page. The routine is the whole trick. Office fills the day; the exam only needs the edges of it.
