Your PGCET result is more than a score — it is the rank that sets your document-verification slot, your place in the option-entry queue, and ultimately the college on your admission order. This guide explains how marks become a rank, what that rank realistically unlocks, and how to move through counselling without a costly mistake.
The PGCET 2026 MBA and MCA exam was held on 14 June 2026. The result is awaited as of this update — expect it around July–August 2026. The dates below are tentative until KEA’s official notice; confirm everything on the official KEA site (cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea).

How a small change in marks moves your rank
PGCET’s mark-to-rank curve is not linear. Around the middle of the scoreboard, where thousands of candidates cluster, an extra five marks can lift you by a thousand ranks or more. Near the top, the same five marks move you far less because the field is already thin. That is exactly why a live estimate based on real cohort data beats a static PDF cut-off list.
The table below is an indicative marks-to-rank guide built from Learn Crew’s 2025 cohort data (MCA ~18,700 candidates, MBA ~33,300). Use it to orient your option entry, not as an official prediction — the 2026 curve depends on this year’s cohort and difficulty.

From result day to campus — the full walkthrough
- 1. Download the rank card. Log in with your PGCET application number and save it to phone and cloud — KEA servers get busy on result day.
- 2. Document verification. KEA schedules this by rank range. Carry originals (marks cards, ID, Karnataka domicile if applicable, category or income certificates) plus self-attested copies. Biometric capture links your identity to your rank.
- 3. Option entry. Order colleges and branches strictly by preference. Use last year’s cut-offs on the portal alongside the guide above to separate safe, reach and dream picks.
- 4. Mock allotment. A dress rehearsal that shows where you’d land if you froze now. Not happy? Push your true favourites up before the real round.
- 5. Final freeze. Once the window closes your list is fixed — no late-night edits after this.
- 6. Round 1 allotment. Choose your path: accept and pay (freeze), accept and stay eligible for an upgrade (float), or reject and try the next round (higher risk, no safety net).
- 7. Fee payment and admission order. Pay online, print the receipt, download the admission order, and report to college with originals within the deadline.
- 8. Later rounds. Held only if seats remain. MCA historically sees more movement, so MCA aspirants sometimes find good upgrades here.

How colleges read your rank (indicative only)
These bands shift every year with the seat matrix and category-wise withdrawals, so treat them as rough orientation, never as official cut-offs.
- Top government and university institutes — the most competitive MBA and MCA seats close within the low ranks and fill quickly.
- Government-quota seats in private colleges — a much wider band, comfortably reachable for mid-range ranks.
- University institutes inside private campuses — often the sweet spot for mid-range MBA and MCA aspirants.
For any specific college, check its actual previous-year closing rank on the KEA portal before you rank it.
Rather than fixate on whether your rank “should” get a specific college, use the mock allotment as your real signal. It reflects this year’s actual competition, which no historical cut-off can.

Questions students actually ask
Can I switch between MCA and MBA after Round 1? Only if you listed both in your frozen options. List just one, and the portal treats you as that stream only.
My rank is a four-digit number — is a government seat still possible? For MCA, often yes, especially in Tier-2 universities. For MBA it is tighter; look at aided institutes beyond the metros. Run scenarios before you worry.
If I upgrade from a float seat, do I pay again? Usually only the difference if the new seat costs more; any excess is refunded after counselling.
How many rounds are there? KEA notifies each round. Recent cycles have typically run two rounds plus an extended round for stray vacancies — confirm the current year’s schedule on KEA.
