Which exam should I take? For an MBA or MCA seat in Karnataka through KEA’s government quota, take PGCET. Add KMAT if you also want to apply to KPPGCA’s member self-financing colleges. Take CAT if you are aiming at the IIMs and other national B-schools. For an M.E. or M.Tech in Karnataka, a valid GATE score gets priority over PGCET in KEA’s merit list.

Is PGCET tough?
PGCET has 100 one-mark multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes, with no negative marking, as per KEA’s 2026 bulletin. KEA does not publish how many candidates qualify, so there is no official pass-rate to compare. The best guide to difficulty is your own score on full-length mocks.
PGCET
PGCET is Karnataka’s common entrance test for MBA, MCA and M.E./M.Tech/M.Arch, run by KEA. Your rank depends only on your PGCET marks, with separate merit lists for MBA and MCA, and KEA allots seats through online counselling. See our PGCET online coaching and the PGCET rank predictor.
CAT
CAT is conducted by the IIMs for their management programmes. CAT 2026 is on Sunday, 29 November 2026, in three sessions. Listed non-IIM institutions can also use CAT 2026 scores; the list is on iimcat.ac.in.
KMAT
KMAT is run by KPPGCA for admission to MBA, MCA and PGDM programmes at its AICTE-approved member colleges in Karnataka. KMAT 2026 is an online, remote-proctored test on 14 November 2026, and registration closes on 31 October 2026.
GATE
GATE 2027 is organised by IIT Madras. It is a 3-hour computer-based test with 65 questions for 100 marks. For M.E./M.Tech admission through KEA, candidates with a valid GATE score are placed ahead of others in the merit list.
