This is the step that decides your seat. You enter your college-and-course preferences in your genuine order of priority. KEA lets you list many options, and you should use that. Option entry is where most students either help themselves or quietly damage their own outcome.
3. Mock allotment
Before the real allotment, KEA usually publishes a mock allotment based on the options you entered. This shows you, roughly, what your current option order would get you. Read it carefully. It is a chance to rethink and reorder your options before the round that actually assigns a seat, not a final result.
4. Real allotment rounds
KEA then runs the actual allotment in rounds. Based on your rank, category, and option order, you are allotted a seat. You then choose what to do with it — typically options like accepting and reporting, or holding for a chance at a better seat in a later round. Each choice has consequences for the next round, so understand what each one means before you click it.

Mistakes that cost seats in option entry
- Listing too few options. A short list is the single most common self-inflicted wound. More genuine options means more chances across rounds. List every college you would actually attend.
- Ordering by reputation instead of your real preference. Enter options in the order you would truly choose them, weighing location, fees, specialisation and placements — not just a name you have heard.
- Putting a college you would never join above one you want. The system honours your order literally. If a seat you listed higher is allotted, that is where you are placed.
- Ignoring the mock allotment. It is your one free look at what your list will produce. Skipping the reorder it invites is leaving a better seat on the table.
- Missing round deadlines or misreading a choice. Each round has firm timings and each option (accept, report, hold for the next round) has consequences. Read what each one commits you to before selecting it.
